1958 Hawke's Bay Centennial procession. The slide shows the Taradale Looks Forward float in the 1958 Hawke's Bay Centennial procession on Marine Parade in Napier. The Taradale Queen, Carlene Leadbetter, stands on the float. People are watching from a balcony and window of a streetside building.
To celebrate the Hawke's Bay Centennial a Taradale committee was formed which decided that extensions to the Taradale Park would be a fitting memorial to the early settlers of Hawke's Bay. Land was purchased at the western end of the park. This had previously been an orchard. Two ornamental ponds, a pergola, foundation and rose garden were planned along with plantings of native trees.
